Men’s Tennis Nets 9-0 Win at Gordon
WENHAM, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory at Gordon Wednesday afternoon.
The Lions improve to 7-5 on the year with the win while the Fighting Scots dip to 2-8 overall.
Diego Rodriguez (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Henry Siercke (Hamburg, Germany) edged Nathan Lookwhy and Jonathan Frink 8-7 at the No. 1 doubles position.
Julius Opaschowski (Hamburg, Germany) and Alberto Escobar (Sevilla, Spain) earned an 8-2 win at the second doubles spot over Kristopher Marineau and Patrick Monahan.
Tim Schoengens (Inden, Germany) and Kyle Pierson (Redding, Calif.) topped Will Jeffreys and Richard Ryzi 8-4 at the No. 3 slot.
Siercke outlasted Lookwhy at the No. 1 siingles position. After dropping the first set 6-4, Siercke stormed back to claim the second 7-5 before prevailing 10-4 in a third-set super-tiebreaker.
Escobar downed Frink in a third-set super-tiebreaker at the No. 2 spot. Escobar conceded the opening set 6-3 and grabbed the second 6-3. In the super-tiebreaker, Escobar triumphed 10-3 over Frink.
Opaschowski rolled to a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the third singles slot while Rodriguez bested Jeffreys 6-3, 6-4 in the fourth singles match.
Schoengens coasted by Monahan 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 5 position and Pierson collected a 6-2, 6-1 win over Ryzi at the No. 6 singles slot.
