Men’s Tennis Coasts Past Methodist 8-1
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team returned to the win-column with an 8-1 victory over Methodist Thursday.
The Lions improve to 4-4 on the year with the win while the Monarchs fall to 4-5 overall.
Alberto Escobar (Sevilla, Spain) and Julius Opaschowski (Hamburg, Germany) rolled past AJ Rogers and EJ Stolmeijer 8-1 at the No. 1 doubles spot.
Diego Rodriguez (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Tim Schoengens (Inden, Germany) topped Daniel Wolf and Max Linder at the second doubles position 8-1.
Kyle Pierson (Redding, Calif.) and Henry Siercke (Hamburg, Germany) claimed an 8-3 victory at the third slot against Spencer Kieft and Alex Lycan.
Escobar captured a 7-6, 6-1 win at the No. 2 singles position over Luke Laney. Opaschowski rolled past Joshua Deutsch 6-2, 6-3 in the third singles match. Rodriguez blanked Owen Findley at the No. 4 spot 6-0, 6-0.
Schoengens collected his team-leading fourth singles victory with a 6-2, 7-5 decision at the fifth slot against Harrison Bitzberger.
Pierson picked up his team-best fourth singles win of the season, downing Samir Tewari 6-2, 6-4 at the sixth position.
Siercke fell in a third-set super-tiebreaker at the top singles spot to Wynn Johnson. After dropping the first set 7-6, Siercke bounced back to capture the second frame 6-3. In the super-tiebreaker, Johnson edged Siercke 10-4.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene wraps up its trip with a pair of matches March 8. The Lions will face Ohio Northern in the morning before capping off the day with a tilt against Spring Arbor.
