Men’s Tennis Bests St. John Fisher to Open Spring Slate
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team breezed by St. John Fisher 8-1 in the first match of the spring season Tuesday.
The Lions climb to 2-3 on the year with the victory while the Cardinals slide to 0-4 overall.
Laurent Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) and Henry Siercke (Hamburg, Germany) cruised to an 8-1 victory over Jonathan Harper and Dustin McCullough at the top doubles spot.
Diego Rodriguez (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Tim Schoengens (Inden, Germany) downed John Miller and Jarrett Pelton at the No. 2 position 8-2.
Shaw Campbell (Redding, Calif.) and Jesus Lucart (Wylie, Texas) dropped an 8-4 decision at the third slot to Tim Christman and Jordan O'Connell.
Siercke rolled past Miller 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 singles position while Julius Opaschowski (Hamburg, Germany) defeated McCullough at the second spot 6-3, 6-4.
Alberto Escobar (Sevilla, Spain) claimed a 7-6, 6-0 victory at the No. 3 singles slot and Rodriguez picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win at the No. 4 position in his first collegiate singles match.
Schoengens coasted past Christman 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 5 spot while Kyle Pierson (Redding, Calif.) notched a 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 6 slot.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene faces Baldwin-Wallace and Missouri Valley March 6.
