Men’s Tennis Sweeps UMass Dartmouth to Collect First Win
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team defeated UMass Dartmouth 9-0 at the ENC Tennis Courts Wednesday afternoon.
The Lions improve to 1-2 on the year with the victory while the Corsairs drop to 0-1 overall.
Julius Opaschowski (Hamburg, Germany) and Laurent Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) cruised to an 8-0 win at the No. 1 doubles position over Tristin Viale and Anthony Joseph.
Santiago Camero (Valencia, Venezuela) and Tim Schoengens (Inden, Germany) topped Eli Brooks and Ross Kellar 8-1 at the second spot.
Shaw Campbell (Redding, Calif.) and Jesus Lucart (Wylie, Texas) earned an 8-4 win at the No. 3 slot against Baylen Harper and Sean Nutter.
Henry Siercke (Hamburg, Germany) bested Brooks 6-3, 6-2 at the top singles position while Camero coasted to a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the No. 2 position over Viale.
Schoengens posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the No. 3 spot over Kellar and Kyle Pierson (Redding, Calif.) notched a 6-2, 6-1 win at the fourth slot against Joseph.
Alberto Escobar (Sevilla, Spain) rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the fifth slot to collect his first singles win of the season.
Lucart downed Nutter at the No. 6 position 6-4, 6-4 to record his first singles victory of the year.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene heads to NCAA Division II Bentley October 5.
