Men’s Tennis Absorbs 5-3 Loss to Holy Cross
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team dropped a 5-3 decision to NCAA Division I foe Holy Cross Wednesday afternoon at the ENC Tennis Courts.
The Lions slide to 0-2 overall while the Crusaders improve to 1-0 on the year with the result.
Alex Partyka (Moscow, Russia) and Henry Siercke (Hamburg, Germany) edged William Chen and Alexander Ruenhorst at the No. 1 doubles position 8-6.
Julius Opaschowski (Hamburg, Germany) and Laurent Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) notched an 8-6 win at the No. 2 doubles slot over Matthew Slowinski and Peter Campito.
Santiago Camero (Valencia, Venezuela) and Shaw Campbell (Reading, Calif.) fell 8-5 at the No. 3 slot to Henry Harrs and Matthew Murphy.
Siercke claimed the home team's lone victory in singles action with a 7-5, 6-3 win at the No. 2 position against Harrs.
Partya suffered a 6-3, 6-1 setback to Chen at the top singles spot while Ruttkowski endured a 6-1, 6-1 loss at the No. 3 position to Ruenhorst.
Camero fell in a third-set super-tiebreaker at the No. 4 slot to Slowinski. After dropping the first frame 6-4, Camero roared back with a 6-0 decision in the second. In the super-tiebreaker, Slowinski edged Camero 10-8.
Opaschowski absorbed a 7-5, 6-2 loss at the fifth position to Campito and Tim Schoengens (Inden, Germany) trailed Murphy 6-5 in the first set at the No. 6 spot when the match was halted due to darkness.
