Men’s Tennis Outduels Gordon 8-1
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team glided past Gordon 8-1 Thursday afternoon at the ENC Tennis Courts.
The Lions improve to 12-3 on the season and 4-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the win. The Fighting Scots fall to 5-8 overall and 2-2 in league competition with the result.
Alex Partyka (Moscow, Russia) and Laurent Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) downed Mason Casady and Nathan Lookwhy 8-5 at the No. 1 position.
Henry Siercke (Hamburg, Germany) and Kyle Pierson (Redding, Calif.) edged Michael D'Antuono and Peter Godwin at the second spot 8-6.
Julius Opaschowski (Hamburg, Germany) and Kaden Swarr (Brighton, Colo.) dropped a narrow 8-6 decision at the third slot to Jonathan Frink and Kristopher Marineau.
Partyka rolled to a 6-1, 6-3 victory at the top singles position over Casady while Ruttkowski notched a 6-4, 6-1 win over Frink at the No. 3 spot.
Siercke outlasted Lookwhy in a third-set super-tiebreaker at the second position to claim his team-leading 11th singles win. After each player captured a set 6-4, Siercke posted a 10-6 decision in the super-tiebreaker.
Opaschowski cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 4 slot to earn his sixth-consecutive singles win.
Pierson collected his team-best 11th singles victory as he prevailed 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 5 position over Godwin.
Swarr topped Will Jeffreys in a third-set super-tiebreaker at the sixth spot. Swarr dropped the first frame 6-4 before battling back to grab a 6-1 win in the second set. The sophomore doubled up Jeffreys 10-5 in the super-tiebreaker.
