Men’s Tennis Swept by NAIA Side Missouri Valley
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team saw its seven-match unbeaten streak halted with a 9-0 setback to Missouri Valley at the Chaplin Park Tennis Center Thursday.
The Lions dip to 7-1 on the year while the Vikings, receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll, improve to 4-2 overall.
Laurent Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) and Henry Siercke (Hamburg, Germany) were edged in a tiebreaker at the No. 1 doubles position against Abdul Alhamzawi and Heitor Garcia.
Kyle Pierson (Reading, Calif.) and Kaden Swarr (Brighton, Colo.) absorbed an 8-2 loss at the No. 2 spot to Marc Kerndl and Benedict Voelker.
Shaw Campbell (Reading, Calif.) and Julius Opaschowski (Hamburg, Germany) dropped an 8-3 decision to Marius Castella and Guilherme Gumiero Albertinazzi at the third slot.
Siercke suffered a 6-2, 7-5 setback at the No. 1 singles match against Garcia. Ruttkowski fell 6-3, 6-3 to Voelker at the second spot.
Opaschowski endured a 6-3, 6-4 setback at the No. 3 singles position to Stefano Benedetti while Pierson dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision at the fourth slot to Kerndl.
Swarr absorbed a 6-3, 6-3 loss at the No. 5 spot against Ruben Hoekstra and Campbell fell in his first singles action of the season 6-3, 6-3 at the sixth position to Greg Teal.
