Men’s Tennis Nets 5-4 Win Over Mount Union in Midweek Matchup
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team eked out a 5-4 victory over Mount Union Wednesday at the Shipyard Racquet Club to keep its unblemished record intact.
The Lions climb to 7-0 on the year with the win while the Purple Raiders fall to 4-2 overall.
Alex Partyka (Moscow, Russia) and Henry Siercke (Hamburg, Germany) prevailed 8-3 at the top doubles position over Mark Beebe and Jackson Schneider.
Julius Opaschowski (Hamburg, Germany) and Kyle Pierson (Reading, Calif.) edged Kyle Hicken and Jacob Labonte in a tie-breaker to claim a 9-8 win at the No. 3 spot.
Santiago Camero (Valencia, Venezuela) and Laurent Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) dropped an 8-5 decision at the second slot to Robert Cross and Zach Teffner.
Ruttkowski downed Teffner at the No. 3 singles position 6-4, 6-4 to improve to 7-0 in singles action this season.
Opaschowski rolled past Beebe 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 5 spot.
Pierson collected his seventh singles victory of the season with a 6-3, 6-1 win at the sixth slot.
Partyka suffered a straight-sets setback at the top singles position while Siercke and Camero both fell in third-set super-tiebreakers at the second and fourth singles matches, respectively.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene is slated to take on Missouri Valley March 8 in the Palmetto State.
