Men’s Tennis Defeats Drew, 8-1, in Battle of Unbeatens
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team collected its sixth-consecutive victory Tuesday, downing Drew 8-1.
The Lions jump to 6-0 overall with the win while the Rangers fall to 4-1 on the year.
Santiago Camero (Valencia, Venezuela) and Laurent Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) prevailed 8-2 at the No. 2 doubles slot over Will Morrison and Bryce Kennedy.
Julius Opaschowski (Hamburg, Germany) and Kaden Swarr (Brighton, Colo.) notched an 8-3 victory at the third spot over Bryce Weizer and Karel Raska.
Alex Partyka (Moscow, Russia) and Henry Siercke (Hamburg, Germany) fell at the top doubles position 9-7 to Vineet Vemulapally and Geoffrey Diehl.
Partyka earned a 6-2, 6-4 win at the No. 1 singles spot over Vemulapally while Ruttkowski claimed a 7-5, 6-1 victory at the third spot against Morrison.
Siercke outlasted Diehl at the No. 2 slot in a third-set super-tiebreaker 10-7 after claiming the second set 6-1.
Camero cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 4 singles match against Chris Thompson.
Opaschowski topped Kennedy at the fifth position 6-2, 6-2 and Kyle Pierson (Reading, Calif.) rolled past Raska 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 6 singles match.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene resumes play in the Palmetto State March 7 against Mount Union.
