Men’s Tennis Sweeps St. John Fisher 9-0
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team kicked off the spring season with a convincing 9-0 win over St. John Fisher Monday in Hilton Head Island, S.C.
The Lions remain undefeated on the year at 5-0 with the victory while the Cardinals slip to 0-3 overall.
Alex Partyka (Moscow, Russia) and Henry Siercke (Hamburg, Germany) downed Kevin Kulawiec and Dustin McCullough 8-3 at the No. 1 doubles position.
Santiago Camero (Valencia, Venezuela) and Laurent Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) captured an 8-4 win at the second spot over John Miller and Jarrett Pelton.
Julius Opaschowski (Hamburg, Germany) and Kaden Swarr (Brighton, Colo.) prevailed 8-4 at the No. 3 slot against Jordan O'Connell and Jonathan Harper.
Partyka triumphed in a third-set super-tiebreaker at the No. 1 singles match against Kulawiec. Partyka won the opening set 6-2 and narrowly fell 7-6 in the second. Partyka bounced back to claim the super-tiebreaker 10-6.
Siercke rolled past Miller 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 2 slot to improve to 5-0 in singles action this year. Ruttkowski also moved to 5-0 on the season with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over McCullough in the No. 3 singles spot.
Camero edged Harper in a super-tiebreaker to earn his fifth singles win of the year at the fourth position. Camero seized the first frame 6-2 before conceding the second 7-5. He responded with a 10-5 decision in the super-tiebreaker.
Opaschowski earned a 6-4, 6-3 victory at the No. 5 singles slot over Pelton in his first collegiate match.
Pierson cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 6 spot against Michael Zintel to notch his fifth-consecutive singles victory.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene resumes play in the Palmetto State March 6 against Drew.
