Men’s Tennis Knocks Off Division I Holy Cross, 5-2
WORCESTER, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team bested Division I foe Holy Cross 5-2 Wednesday afternoon on the road.
The Lions improve to 2-0 on the year with the victory while the Crusaders fall to 0-1 overall.
The guests clinched the doubles point by prevailing in two of the three matches.
Alex Partyka (Moscow, Russia) and Henry Siercke (Hamburg, Germany) edged Peter Campito and Matthew Slowinski at the top doubles position 7-6.
Santiago Camero (Valencia, Venezuela) and Laurent Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) clipped Tom Cimini and Johnny McAuliffe 7-5 at the No. 2 spot.
Kyle Pierson (Reading, Calif.) and Kaden Swarr (Brighton, Colo.) dropped a 6-1 decision to Andrew Vroman and Matthew Murphy at the third slot.
Eastern Nazarene notched four wins in singles play to defeat Holy Cross for the second year in a row.
Siercke posted a 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 2 singles positon over Campito while Ruttkowski downed Matthew Fagan at the third spot 6-3, 6-0.
Camero prevailed 6-1, 7-5 at the No. 4 singles slot over Vroman and Pierson topped Murphy 6-2, 6-4 in the fifth singles match.
Partyka suffered a setback in a third-set super-tiebreaker at the No. 1 position against Slowinski. After the two players each claimed a set 6-4, Partyka fell 10-2 in the super-tiebreaker.
Swarr dropped a hard-fought match at the sixth spot. Cimini prevailed 6-0 in the first set before Swarr battled back to claim the second 6-4. Cimini outlasted Swarr in a third-set super-tiebreaker 13-11.
