Men’s Tennis Rolls Past Regis in Season-Opener, 9-0
WESTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team started the 2017-18 campaign with a commanding 9-0 victory over Regis Friday afternoon.
The Lions jump to 1-0 on the year while the Pride falls to o-1 overall.
The visitors rattled off three wins in doubles play to grab a 3-0 lead.
Alex Partyka (Moscow, Russia) and Henry Siercke (Hamburg, Germany) posted an 8-5 victory at the top doubles spot over Chris Harrow and Luke Horton.
Santiago Camero (Valencia, Venezuela) and Laurent Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) downed Johnny Pallotta and Cam Charbonneau 8-3 at the No. 2 position.
Kyle Pierson (Redding, Calif.) and Kaden Swarr (Brighton, Colo.) cruised to an 8-2 win at the No. 3 slot over Kyle Dugat and Tim Miller.
Eastern Nazarene swept the six singles matches to clinch the season-opening victory.
Partyka topped Harrow 6-4, 6-2 at the No.1 singles position and Siercke breezed past Horton at the second spot 6-1, 6-2.
Ruttkowski outlasted Charbonneau in a third-set super-tiebreaker at the No. 3 slot. The sophomore captured the first set 6-3 before dropping the second 6-1. Ruttkowski stormed back to prevail 10-4 in the super-tiebreaker.
In the No. 4 singles match, Camero edged Regis' Nolan Bebarta in a closely-contested third-set super-tiebreaker. After conceding the opening frame 6-4, Camero bounced back to take the second set 6-3 and narrowly triumph 12-10 in the super-tiebreaker.
Pierson defeated Pallotta in straight sets at the fifth position 6-2, 6-3. Swarr bested Owen Pelissier 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 6 spot.
Up next, the Lions will compete in the Stonehill Doubles Tournament September 9.
