Men’s Tennis Bests Bridgewater State on Senior Day
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team rolled to an 8-1 victory over Bridgewater State Thursday afternoon at the ENC Tennis Courts.
The Lions jump to 16-3 on the season with the win while the Bears drop to 5-5 overall.
Prior to the start of the match, the Eastern Nazarene men's tennis team recognized the program's three seniors: Andres Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela), Yahalel Carter (Chicago, Ill.), and Davis Steelman (Darlington, Md.).
Santiago Camero (Valencia, Venezuela) and Kyle Pierson (Redding, Calif.) edged Matt McGee and Chris Jastrab at the No. 1 doubles position, 8-6.
Shaw Campbell (Redding, Calif.) and Kaden Swarr (Brighton, Colo.) clipped Justin Haley and Michael Delisle 8-6 at the second spot.
Biondi and Carter teamed up at the No. 3 doubles slot to collect an 8-1 victory over Alexander Belinsky and Jacob Frazee.
Laurent Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at the top singles position over McGee.
Pierson outlasted Jastrab in a third-set super-tiebreaker at the No. 2 slot. The rookie dropped the opening set 6-2 before roaring back to claim the second set 6-3 and the super-tiebreaker 10-4.
Steelman coasted by Haley 6-1. 6-0 at the No. 3 spot and Swarr downed Delisle 6-2, 6-3 at the fourth position.
Biondi improved to 4-0 in singles action with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at the No. 5 slot over Belinsky.
In his second singles match of the year, rookie Corey Davis (Derby, Vt.) absorbed a 7-5, 10-3 setback at the sixth spot.
Looking ahead, the Lions begin postseason play May 3 as the No. 1 seed in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament.
