Men’s Tennis Wins Sixth-Straight Match, Claws Past Lebanon Valley 8-1
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team extended its winning-streak to six matches with an 8-1 victory over Lebanon Valley Thursday afternoon.
The Lions improve to 7-1 on the year with the win while the Dutchmen sink to 2-4 overall.
Eastern Nazarene chalked up three victories in doubles action to grab a 3-0 lead.
Alex Partyka (Moscow, Russia) and Laurent Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) rolled past Brent Greco and Reed Morris at the No. 1 doubles position 8-3.
Santiago Camero (Valencia, Venezuela) and Henry Siercke (Hamburg, Germany) bested Blake Martin and Nick Jones 8-3 at the second spot.
Shaw Campbell (Redding, Calif.) and Davis Steelman (Darlington, Md.) defeated Jonathan Hastings and Jordan Heavel in the third doubles match, 8-3.
The Lions netted five singles wins to clinch their seventh victory of the year.
Partyka cruised past Jones at the top singles slot 6-1, 6-0 and Camero breezed by Hastings at the No. 3 position 6-0, 6-2.
Kyle Pierson (Redding, Calif.) earned a 7-5, 6-3 win at the No. 4 singles spot over Morris.
Steelman posted his team-leading eighth singles win of the season and his 10th victory in a row as he topped Martin 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 5 position.
Andres Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) downed Heavel in the sixth singles match 6-1, 6-3.
Ruttkowski fell at the No. 2 slot in a third-set super-tiebreaker. After conceding the opening set 6-1 to Greco, Ruttkowski stormed back to claim the second frame 6-0 before dropping the super-tiebreaker 10-7.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene wraps up play in the Palmetto State March 10 against Division II's No. 46 Palm Beach Atlantic.
