Men’s Tennis Clips Bridgewater (Va.), 5-4
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team edged Bridgewater (Va.) 5-4 Thursday morning to complete a match started on Monday that was suspended due to rain.
The Lions improve to 6-1 on the year with the win while the Eagles sink to 4-2 overall.
The Eagles seized a 2-1 lead after capturing two doubles victories.
Henry Siercke (Hamburg, Germany) and Santiago Camero (Valencia, Venezuela) posted Eastern Nazarene's lone doubles win, prevailing 8-6 at the No. 2 position over Kyle Hartfield and Thomas Rischcoff.
Alex Partyka (Moscow, Russia) and Laurent Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) suffered an 8-5 setback at the top slot to Joe Dillenbeck and Josh Rodgers.
Shaw Campbell (Redding, Calif.) and Kaden Swarr (Brighton, Colo.) fell to Freddie Roberts and Nate Horner 8-2 at the third spot.
Kyle Pierson (Redding, Calif.) dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision in the No. 5 singles match to Horner.
Camero collected a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the third position over Roberts.
When the match was suspended, Eastern Nazarene trailed 3-2.
Partyka picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win at the No. 1 singles spot over Hartfield.
Siercke locked up the victory for the Lions with a 6-1, 6-3 decision at the second slot against Dillenbeck.
Ruttkowski fell at the third position to Rodgers 6-4, 6-3.
Steelman prevailed in a third-set super-tiebreaker at the No. 6 spot. Steelman claimed the first set 7-5 before Emmett Johnson won the second frame 7-6. Steelman edged Johnson in the super-tiebreaker 11-9.
Eastern Nazarene returns to the courts Thursday afternoon to battle Lebanon Valley.
