Men’s Tennis Places First at ENC Fall Invitational
QUINCY, Mass.- For the third consecutive year, the Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team captured first place at the ENC Fall Invitational.
The Lions scored a total of 120 points while Western New England claimed second with 60 points and Wentworth finished with zero points on the day.
In the red group of the singles flight, Henry Siercke (Hamburg, Germany) notched a pair of victories. The rookie defeated Wentworth's Jeff Tocco 6-2, 6-2 and topped Western New England's Justin Kohut 6-2, 6-2.
In the white group of the singles flight, Santiago Camero (Toronto, Ontario) posted a 1-1 record. He downed Wentworth's Zach Peter 6-0, 6-1 before falling to Western New England's Mihir Nadig 6-1, 6-0.
In the semifinal round of the singles bracket, Siercke cruised past Camero 6-0, 6-0 to reach the championship match.
Siercke prevailed in the finals over Nadig in straight sets 7-6, 6-4.
In the red group of the doubles flight, Shaw Campbell (Redding, Calif.) and Davis Steelman (Darlington, Md.) collected a pair of victories. The duo defeated Nick Raschilla and Dan O'Neil of Western New England 8-4 before rolling to an 8-1 win over Wentworth's Thinh Dang and Alex Cate.
Rookies Kyle Pierson (Redding, Calif.) and Kaden Swarr (Brighton, Colo.) grabbed two wins in the white group of the doubles flight. The tandem earned a 6-2 victory over Western New England's Luke Surawski and David Kalmer. Pierson and Swarr also breezed by Ben Chasse and Evan Gosselin from Wentworth 8-0.
Both of Eastern Nazarene's doubles pairs advanced to the championship match with semifinal wins over Western New England tandems.
Campbell and Steelman edged Pierson and Swarr 7-3 in a tie-breaker to triumph 9-8 in the finale.
