Men’s Tennis Places Second at Stonehill Doubles Invitational
EASTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team claimed second place at the Stonehill Doubles Invitational with a total of 83 points. The Lions finished ahead of Roger Williams, Assumption and Holy Cross while the host Skyhawks captured the title.
In the "A" flight, Santiago Camero (Toronto, Ontario) and Henry Siercke (Hamburg, Germany) posted a 3-1 record on the day. The duo downed Henry Haars and Mike Varda of Holy Cross 8-3, edged Stonehill's Thomas Bellio and Nikolay Lisichenok 6-5 and cruised to an 11-0 victory over Roger Williams' Grant Rosenberg and Nick Spoor. The tandem's lone loss came to Assumption's Chris Wuang and Marco Leung 9-2.
Shaw Campbell (Redding, Calif.) and Laurent Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) notched one win and suffered three losses in the "B" flight. The pair earned a 7-4 victory over Holy Cross' Elmer Lutz and Peter Campito. Campbell and Ruttkowski fell to Ryan Foster and Danny Waung of Assumption 8-3, Roger Williams' Brendan White and Jake Cole 10-1 and Stonehill's Joan Castillo and Dimitri Vlassov 6-5.
Rookies Kyle Pierson (Redding, Calif.) and Kaden Swarr (Brighton, Colo.) collected a pair of victories and absorbed two losses in the "C" flight. The duo claimed an 8-3 win over Assumption's Reb Mariano and Tom Knight and edged Tom Buckley and Manu Ravicahndrakumar of Stonehill 6-5. Pierson and Swarr dropped 6-5 decisions to Tom Cimini and Pat O'Shea of Holy Cross and Roger Williams' Thomas O'Leary and Matthew Russo.
In the "D" doubles flight, Andres Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Davis Steelman (Darlington, Md.) endured a pair of three-set losses. Against Roger Williams' Alex Bonanno and Stratton Stilianos, the pair prevailed in the first set 6-4 before dropping the second 6-3 and coming up short in a third-set super-tiebreaker, 10-8. Biondi and Steelman bounced back from conceding the opening frame 7-5 to Stonehill's Jeffrey Gagnon and Aaron Diamond to claim the second set 6-4 before falling 10-7 in the third set.
Eastern Nazarene continues its fall slate September 16 at Springfield.
