Men’s Tennis Knocked Off at Nichols 7-2 in Regular Season Finale
DUDLEY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team suffered a 7-2 setback at Nichols in the final match of the regular season Wednesday.
The Lions drop to 12-8 on the year and wrap up league play with a 4-4 mark, locking up the No. 5 seed in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament. The Bison improve to 16-4 overall and 7-1 in conference action.
Alex Partyka (Moscow, Russia) and Shaw Campbell (Redding, Calif.) edged Blake Norton and Aidan Stuart 8-6 at the No. 1 doubles position.
Andres Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Yahalel Carter (Chicago, Ill.) dropped an 8-2 decision at the second spot to Josh Halpern and Jake Zapatka.
Partyka collected his seventh singles victory in a row, outlasting Norton at the top slot in a third-set super-tiebreaker. Partyka conceded the opening set 6-4 and stormed back to claim the second 6-3. The rookie prevailed 10-8 in the super-tiebreaker over Norton.
Campbell absorbed a 6-2, 6-1 loss at the No. 2 singles position to James Smith and Carter fell to Zapatka 6-2, 6-1 in the third singles match.
Brandon Jenkins (Norwood, Mass.) endured a 6-2, 6-2 setback at the No. 4 singles slot against Igor Markowski while Biondi fell to Stuart 6-0, 6-0 at the fifth spot.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene will make its seventh-straight Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament appearance as postseason play begins April 30.
