Men’s Tennis Breezes Past UMass-Boston, 8-1
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team rattled off its third-consecutive win Thursday afternoon, downing UMass-Boston 8-1 at the ENC Tennis Courts.
The Lions improve to 9-6 on the year while the Beacons fall to 3-9 overall.
The home team rolled to three doubles victories to build up a 3-0 lead.
Alex Partyka (Moscow, Russia) and Vladislav Tolmachev (Perm, Russia) blanked Josh Bhasin and Jack Wang at the No. 1 doubles position, 8-0, to collect their team-leading eighth doubles win of the season.
Andres Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires, Argentina) claimed an 8-5 win at the No. 2 spot over Austin DeLasse and Guang Huang.
Shaw Campbell (Redding, Calif.) and Yahalel Carter (Chicago, Ill.) prevailed 8-2 at the third doubles slot over Zeke Hernandez and Hector Mata.
Eastern Nazarene tallied five singles wins to lock up its third win in a row.
Partyka cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the No. 1 singles match against DeLasse while Tolmachev coasted past Bhasin 6-1, 6-2 at the second position.
At the third spot, Paterno prevailed in three sets for the second straight match. The senior conceded the first set 6-2 to Wang before bouncing back to win the second frame 6-2. Paterno doubled up Wang in the third-set super-tiebreaker 10-5 to cap off the come-from-behind victory.
Biondi topped Sanshrut Sharma 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 4 singles slot and Campbell glided to a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 5 position over Wyatt Towle.
Carter suffered a hard-fought loss at the sixth spot to Huang, falling in three sets. Carter dropped the opening set 6-3 and roared back with a 6-1 win in the second before Huang edged him 10-7 in the super-tiebreaker.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene hits the road for a non-conference match at Becker April 19.
