Men’s Tennis Upended at Roger Williams 8-1
BRISTOL, R.I.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision on the road at Roger Williams Saturday afternoon.
The Lions sink to 7-6 on the year and 1-2 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Hawks improve to 8-2 overall and 3-0 in league matches.
The home team snagged a 2-1 lead after doubles play.
The visitors' lone victory came at the top doubles position as Alex Partyka (Moscow, Russia) and Vladislav Tolmachev (Perm, Russia) picked up their sixth doubles win of the season, defeating Eric Laboissonniere and Jonah Schwartz 8-6.
Shaw Campbell (Reading, Calif.) and Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires, Argentina) narrowly fell at the No. 2 spot 8-6 to Fred Clifford and Grant Rosenberg.
Andres Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Yahalel Carter (Chicago, Ill.) suffered an 8-2 setback to Andrew Amarone and Nick Spoor at the third slot.
Roger Williams prevailed at all six singles positions to capture its third conference win in a row.
Partyka fell in three sets at the No. 1 spot to Laboissonniere. The rookie won the opening set 6-3 before conceding the second frame 6-4 and the third-set super-tiebreaker 10-7.
Tolmachev absorbed a 6-3, 6-2 loss at the No. 2 position to Clifford while Paterno was edged 6-1, 7-6 at the third singles match.
Biondi, Campbell and Carter all suffered straight-set losses at the fourth, fifth and sixth singles slots, respectively.
