Men’s Tennis Falls to Gordon in League-Opener, 8-1
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team endured an 8-1 loss to Gordon in the first conference match of the season Thursday afternoon at the ENC Tennis Courts.
The Lions slide to 6-5 overall and 0-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the setback. The Fighting Scots improve to 8-2 on the year and 1-0 in league play with the win.
The hosts trailed 2-1 entering singles action after capturing one doubles match.
Shaw Campbell (Reading, Calif.) and Yahalel Carter (Chicago, Ill.) prevailed 8-6 at the No. 3 position over Joe Daugherty and Kristopher Marineau.
Alex Partyka (Moscow, Russia) and Vladislav Tolmachev (Perm, Russia) dropped an 8-6 decision to Zach Hall and Mason Casady at the top spot. Andres Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires, Argentina) absorbed an 8-4 loss at the No. 2 slot to Nate Lookwhy and Peter Godwin.
Gordon swept the six singles matches to claim its fourth victory in a row.
Partyka fell to Hall at the No. 1 singles spot 6-0, 6-2 while Tolmachev suffered a 6-2, 6-3 loss at the second position to Casady.
Paterno dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision to Lookwhy at the third slot and Campbell endured a 6-1, 6-1 setback to Mike D'Antuono at the fourth spot.
Biondi and Carter each fell in straight sets at the fifth and sixth positions, respectively.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene looks to snap its three-match skid with a key conference match at Endicott April 2.
