Men’s Tennis Suffers 6-3 Setback at Saint Anselm
MANCHESTER, N.H.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team absorbed a 6-3 loss at Division II foe Saint Anselm Tuesday afternoon.
The Lions sink to 6-4 overall with the result while the Hawks improve to 2-6 on the year.
The home side notched a pair of doubles wins to hold a 2-1 lead at the start of singles action.
Alex Partyka (Moscow, Russia) and Vladislav Tolmachev (Perm, Russia) posted the visitors' lone double victory, downing Eric Howes and Kyle Harris 8-5 at the top spot.
Shaw Campbell (Reading, Calif.) and Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires, Argentina) dropped an 8-2 decision at the second doubles position to Adam Weinstein and Daniel Kmetz.
Andres Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Yahalel Carter (Chicago, Ill.) narrowly fell to Chris Leighton and Robert Patenaude 8-6 at the third slot.
Eastern Nazarene picked up wins at the top two singles positions while Saint Anselm prevailed in four singles matches to lock up its second victory of the year.
Partyka cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 1 singles position over Howes to improve to 5-1 in singles play.
Tolmachev earned a 7-6, 6-2 victory at the No. 2 spot over Weinstein to collect his team-leading seventh singles win of the season.
Biondi fell in three sets at the No. 4 singles match against Brian Kavanaugh. After dropping the first set 6-3, Biondi rattled off a 6-0 win in the second frame before enduring a 6-3 loss in the deciding third set.
At the sixth singles slot, Carter claimed the opening set 6-2 before dropping the next two 7-5 and 6-2 to Benji Page.
Paterno and Campbell suffered straight-set losses at the third and fifth positions, respectively.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene kicks off conference play at home against Gordon March 31.
