Men's Tennis Suffers 8-1 Setback at Stonehill
EASTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision at NCAA Division II Stonehill Wednesday afternoon.
The Lions slip to 6-3 on the year with the loss. The Skyhawks improve to 4-4 overall with the result.
The visitors claimed one doubles win to trail 2-1 heading into the singles portion of the match.
Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Shaw Campbell (Reading, Calif.) notched an 8-5 victory at the second doubles position over Nick Lisichenok and Joan Castillo.
Vladislav Tolmachev (Perm, Russia) and Alex Partyka (Moscow, Russia) fell to Tom Bellio and Tom Buckley at the top spot, 8-3. Andres Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Yahalel Carter (Chicago, Ill.) absorbed an 8-2 loss at the No. 3 doubles slot to Mike Doody and Gerard Tierney.
Stonehill swept the six singles matches to snap a four-match skid.
Partyka endured his first singles loss of the season, falling at the No. 1 position to Bellio 6-4, 6-3. Tolmachev suffered a 6-4, 6-4 setback at the second spot to Lisichenok.
Paterno was edged in a third-set super-tiebreaker at the No. 3 slot to Castillo. After narrowly conceding the opening set 7-6, the senior rebounded to seize the second frame 6-1. Castillo clipped Paterno in the super-tiebreaker 10-6.
Campbell, Biondi and Brandon Jenkins (Norton, Mass.) all absorbed straight-set losses at the fourth, fifth and sixth positions, respectively.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene will open conference play March 31 as it hosts Gordon.
