Men’s Tennis Captures 9-0 Win Over Defiance in Hilton Head Finale
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team collected a 9-0 victory over Defiance in its final match in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina Friday.
The Lions elevate to 6-2 on the year while the Yellow Jackets sink to 3-5.
Vladislav Tolmachev (Perm, Russia) and Alex Partyka (Moscow, Russia) prevailed 8-2 at the No. 1 doubles spot. Shaw Campbell (Reading, Calif.) and Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires, Argentina) notched an 8-3 victory at the second slot. Stephen Crooks (Collegeville, Pa.) and Brandon Jenkins (Norton, Mass.) picked up a narrow 9-8 win at the No. 3 position.
Partyka won at the No. 1 singles slot in three sets. After conceding the first frame 7-6, Partyka clawed back to claim the second set 6-3 and the super-tiebreaker 10-4.
Tolmachev rattled off a 6-4, 6-0 victory at the No. 2 position while Paterno earned a 7-6, 6-3 win at the third spot.
Campbell and Andres Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) each posted straight-set victories at the No. 4 and 5 slots, respectively. Crooks edged Dan Fabelo in a third-set super-tiebreaker 6-3, 3-6, 10-4.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene will visit Division II foe Stonehill March 16.
