Mens’ Tennis Sweeps Emory & Henry for Third Straight Win
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team recorded its third win in a row Wednesday, cruising to a 9-0 victory over Emory & Henry in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
The Lions improves to 5-2 overall with the result while the Wasps stumble to 1-4 on the season.
Vladislav Tolmachev (Perm, Russia) and Alex Partyka (Moscow, Russia) edged John Dalton Ferguson and Luke Funkhouser 9-7 at the No. 1 doubles spot.
Shaw Campbell (Reading, Calif.) and Andres Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) breezed past Liam Davidson and Andrew McClung at the second doubles position, 8-0.
Partyka prevailed in three sets to earn his third victory of the spring at the top singles spot against Ferguson. The rookie dropped the opening frame 6-2 before bouncing back to capture the second set 6-0 and the third-set super-tiebreaker 10-2.
Tolmachev rolled past Funkhouser 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 2 position. Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires, Argentina) tallied a 6-0, 6-1 win in the third singles match against Davidson.
Campbell downed McClung 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 4 slot and Brandon Jenkins secured a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the fifth spot over James Watson-Dare.
The Lions collected wins at the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 positions by default.
