Men’s Tennis Nabs 8-1 Victory over Marietta
HILTON HEAD, S.C.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team rattled off an 8-1 win over Marietta in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina Tuesday.
The Lions improve to 4-2 overall while the Pioneers slide to 3-6 on the year.
Eastern Nazarene built up a 2-1 edge with a pair of wins in doubles play.
At the top spot, Alex Partyka (Moscow, Russia) and Vladislav Tolmachev (Perm, Russia) notched an 8-2 victory over Alex Schaeffer and Shane Spencer.
Shaw Campbell (Reading, Calif.) and Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires, Argentina) secured an 8-5 win over Muhammad Kingson and Andrew Stone at the No. 2 doubles position.
Andres Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Stephen Crooks (Collegeville, Pa.) dropped an 8-5 decision at the third slot to Tanner Sigman and Brendan Adkinson.
The Lions locked up their second consecutive win by sweeping all six singles matches.
Partyka rolled past Schaeffer at the No. 1 position 6-1, 6-2 to elevate to 2-0 on the spring. Tolmachev defeated Spencer 6-1, 6-1 at the second singles spot.
Paterno prevailed at the No. 3 singles match 6-2, 6-1 over Kingson. Biondi won in straight sets against Stone 6-4, 6-4 at the fifth slot. Jenkins collected his second singles win in a row at the No. 6 position, downing Adkinson 6-1, 7-6.
Campbell pulled off a come-from-behind victory at the fourth spot, rallying for a three-set win over Sigman. The rookie dropped the first set 6-2 then claimed the second frame 6-0 victory. Campbell edged Sigman in a third-set super-tiebreaker 11-9.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene returns to action March 9 against Emory & Henry in Hilton Head.
