Men’s Tennis Downs UMass-Dartmouth, 7-2
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team topped UMass-Dartmouth 7-2 in the first match of the season Tuesday.
The Lions improve to 1-0 on the year while the Corsairs sink to 0-2 overall.
The hosts notched a pair of doubles victories to gain a 2-1 advantage.
Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Vladislav Tolmachev (Perm, Russia) earned an 8-2 win at the No. 2 doubles spot over Summer Forest-Bulley and Corey Rafter.
Andres Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Yahalel Carter (Chicago, Ill.) claimed an 8-2 victory at the third position over Andrew Burdick and Anthony Joseph.
Shaw Campbell (Reading, Calif.) and Davis Steelman (Darlington, Md.) suffered an 8-5 setback to Dan Chouinard and Chris Oullette at the top slot.
Eastern Nazarene prevailed in five of the six singles matches to lock up its first victory of the 2015-16 campaign.
Paterno cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Oullette at the second position while Steelman rolled past Rafter 6-0, 6-0 at the third singles match.
Campbell picked up his first collegiate singles win with a 6-2, 6-3 decision at the No. 4 slot against Joseph.
Biondi collected a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Zack Pavao at the No. 5 spot and Carter captured a 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 6 slot over Tyler Anderson.
Tolmachev fell to Chouinard at the No. 1 singles position 6-3, 6-1.
