Men’s Tennis Garners Three ITA Scholar-Athletes
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team picked up a trio of academic accolades awarded by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Andres Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela), Sam Son (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Miguel Vera Orjuela (Bogota, Colombia) were all recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a student-athlete must meet be a varsity letter winner, possess a grade-point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
Biondi and Son were both named ITA Scholar-Athletes for the second straight year.
Son is a three-time Commonwealth Coast Conference All-Academic honoree and claimed All-Commonwealth Coast Conference third team plaudits for his singles play this season.
Biondi earned his first Commonwealth Coast Conference All-Academic nod after the conclusion of the 2014-15 academic year.
A total of 914 NCAA Division III men's tennis student-athletes were recognized by the ITA for their success off the courts.
