Men’s Tennis Edged by Endicott, 5-4
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team endured a 5-4 setback to Endicott Tuesday afternoon at the ENC Tennis Courts
The Lions slip to 8-7 on the season and 2-4 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the result. The Gulls improve to 8-6 overall and 4-2 in league action with the win.
The hosts picked up a pair of doubles victories to establish a 2-1 lead at the start of singles play.
Andres Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Davis Steelman (Darlington, Md.) topped Endicott's Eric Pierce and Eric Gandrup 9-8 at the No. 2 doubles spot.
Sam McKay-Corkum (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Tyler Perron (Plympton, Mass.) prevailed 8-4 at the third position over Michael Lauretano and Sean McAndrews.
Sam Son (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Vladislav Tolmachev (Perm, Russia) dropped an 8-3 decision at the top slot to Michael Dolph and Chris Kirkpatrick.
The visitors rallied behind four singles victories to earn their fourth conference win of the spring.
McKay-Corkum outlasted Pierce in a three-set thriller at the No. 2 singles position. McKay-Corkum claimed the first set 6-3 before Pierce notched the second set 7-5. McKay-Corkum bounced back to triumph 6-3 in the third frame.
Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires, Argentina) posted a three-set victory at the fourth spot against Lauretano. Paterno conceded the opening set 7-5 and eked out a 7-6 win in the second. The junior prevailed in a third-set super-tiebreaker 10-7.
Son absorbed a three-set loss at the No. 3 singles match to Dolph. Son earned a 7-5 win in the first set before dropping the second and third sets 6-2 and 6-1.
Tolmachev fell to Kirkpatrick at the No.1 singles position 6-1, 6-3. Steelman suffered a 6-2, 6-0 setback at the No. 5 spot to McAndrews while Perron endured a 6-4, 6-1 loss at the sixth slot to Nicholas Eherts.
