Men’s Tennis Wraps Up Tampa Trip with 9-0 Win over Northwestern (Minn.)
TAMPA, Fla.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team posted a 9-0 victory over Northwestern (Minn.) Friday in Tampa, Florida.
The Lions improve to 4-2 on the year while the Eagles sink to 3-7 overall with the result.
Eastern Nazarene claimed three victories in doubles play to establish a 3-0 lead.
Sam McKay-Corkum (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Vladislav Tolmachev (Perm, Russia) prevailed 8-6 at the No. 1 singles match. Andres Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Davis Steelman (Darlington, Md.) picked up an 8-3 win at the second doubles spot. Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Tyler Perron (Plympton, Mass.) notched an 8-2 victory at the third doubles slot.
The Lions locked up the 9-0 win with six singles victories.
Tolmachev claimed a 6-1, 6-1 win at the top singles position over CJ Lloyd. McKay-Corkum triumphed 6-2, 6-1 over Brett Jacobus at the No. 2 spot. Paterno downed Trevor Grasto 6-4, 6-1 at the third slot.
Biondi topped Josh Kimball in the No. 4 singles match 7-6, 6-3. Steelman secured a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Cole Grasto at the fifth position. Perron cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 6 slot against Tanner Magruder.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene is slated to host Emerson upon its return to the Bay State March 16.
