Men’s Tennis Endures 9-0 Loss to Division II Stonehill in Tampa
TAMPA, Fla.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team absorbed a 9-0 loss to Division II Stonehill Wednesday in Tampa, Florida.
The Lions fall to 3-2 on the season with the loss. The Skyhawks improve to 6-2 overall with the win.
Stonehill posted three doubles victories.
Vladislav Tolmachev (Perm, Russia) and Sam McKay-Corkum (Rehoboth, Mass.) endured an 8-4 loss at the No. 1 doubles position. Andres Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Davis Steelman (Darlington, Md.) dropped an 8-1 decision in the second doubles match to Tom Alaimo and Jon Sanders. Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Tyler Perron (Plympton, Mass.) fell to Jared Drzal and Tom Buckley 8-3 at the third spot.
The Skyhawks secured the sweep with six wins in singles play.
Tolmachev suffered a 6-2, 6-3 setback at the top slot to Alaimo while McKay-Corkum fell to Drzal at the second position 6-4, 6-3.
Paterno lost in straight sets at the No. 3 position to Nikolay Lisichenok 6-1, 6-2. Biondi dropped a 6-1 6-2 decision to Sanders in the fourth singles match and Steelman was dealt a 6-0, 6-3 setback at the fifth spot.
In the No. 6 singles slot, Perron was edged in a third-set super-tiebreaker, 10-5, after splitting the first two sets against Buckley. Perron earned a 7-4 win in a tiebreaker to capture the first set 7-6 before Buckley prevailed in the second set 6-2.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene will close out play in the Sunshine State March 13 against Northwestern (Minn.).
