Men’s Tennis Swept by Catawba 9-0 in Florida Debut
TAMPA, Fla.- The Eastern Nazarene College absorbed a 9-0 loss to NCAA Division II foe Catawba Monday afternoon in the first match in the Sunshine State.
The Lions fall to 2-1 on the year with the result while the Indians improve to 6-4 overall.
Catawba claimed three victories in doubles action to seize a 3-0 lead in the match.
Sam McKay-Corkum (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Vladislav Tolmachev (Perm, Russia) dropped an 8-1 decision to Pierce Hoover and Jack Mordey at the top doubles spot.
Andres Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Davis Steelman (Darlington, Md.) suffered an 8-1 setback at the No. 2 position. Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires Argentina) and Tyler Perron (Plympton, Mass.) fell to Iago Montero Nunez and Michael Patch at the third slot, 8-2.
The Indians prevailed in all six singles matches to secure the 9-0 win.
Tolmachev lost in straight sets to Hoover at the No. 1 singles position 6-4, 6-0. McKay-Corkum endured a 6-1, 6-2 loss at the second spot to Mordey.
Paterno lost 6-0, 6-1 to Miller at the No. 3 spot and Biondi fell to Patch at the fourth postion 6-2, 6-0. Steelman and Perron both dropped straight-set decisions at the fifth and sixth singles slots, respectively.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene returns to the courts in Tampa March 10 to take on another Division II opponent, Daemen College out of New York.
