Men’s Tennis Coasts to 9-0 Victory at UMass-Dartmouth
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team blanked UMass-Dartmouth 9-0 Thursday afternoon.
The Lions improve to 2-0 on the year while the Corsairs drop to 0-1 overall.
Sam McKay-Corkum (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Vladislav Tolmachev (Perm, Russia) topped Dan Chouinard and Cory Rafter 8-4 at the No. 1 doubles spot.
Sam Son (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Davis Steelman (Darlington, Md.) prevailed 8-2 over Ray Lawton and Jake Joskolka at the second position.
Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Tyler Perron (Plympton, Mass.) secured an 8-4 victory in the No. 3 doubles match over Malcolm Neville and Andrew Burdick.
Tolmachev edged Chouinard in a third-set super-tiebreaker at the top singles slot. The rookie dropped the first set 6-2 before rebounding to claim the second set 7-5. Tolmachev downed Chouinard in the super-tiebreaker 10-6.
McKay-Corkum posted a 7-3 win in a tiebreaker to lock up a 6-4, 7-6 victory at the No. 2 spot. Paterno defeated Joskolka 6-4, 6-2 at the third singles position.
Son rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win in the No. 4 singles match over Rafter. Perron outdueled Neville 6-4, 7-5 at the fifth spot and Miguel Vera Orjuela (Bogota, Colombia) earned his first collegiate victory with a 6-2, 7-6 decision at the No. 6 slot.
The Lions are slated to open the spring season in Tampa, Florida March 7.
