Men’s Tennis Rolls to 7-2 Victory at Regis
WESTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's tennis team notched its first win of the season Monday evening, downing Regis 7-2 in non-conference play on the road.
The Lions begin the year with a 1-0 overall record while the Pride drops to 2-2 with the result.
The guests swept the three doubles matches to claim a 3-0 lead.
Sam McKay-Corkum (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Vladislav Tolmachev (Perm, Russia) edged Regis' Michael Beluch and Chris Harrow 8-6 at the No. 1 doubles position.
Sam Son (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Davis Steelman (Darlington, Md.) doubled up Jarid Polley and Jeremy Morgenbesser at the second spot 8-4.
Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Tyler Perron (Plympton, Mass.) cruised to an 8-2 victory at the third doubles slot over Scott Barrett and Nick Hildreth.
Eastern Nazarene collected four singles wins to lock up its first victory of the 2014-15 campaign.
Tolmachev breezed past Beluch at the top singles spot 6-0, 6-1 and McKay-Corkum swpet Morgenbesser 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 3 position.
Perron outlasted Hildreth in the sixth singles match, prevailing 10-5 in a third-set super-tiebreaker. Perron bounced back from dropping the opening set 6-1 to prevail 6-4 in the second frame.
At the fifth singles slot, Steelman conceded the first set 6-3 and leveled the match at one set each with a 6-4 win in the second set. Steelman was awarded the victory after Polley was forced to retire due to an injury after the second set.
Paterno suffered a three-set loss at the second singles position to Harrow. After dropping the first set 6-1, Paterno rebounded to capture the second set 6-1. Harrow earned a 6-3 win in the deciding third set.
Son endured a 6-1, 6-3 setback at the No. 4 spot to Barrett.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene remains on the road to take on UMass-Dartmouth September 25.
