Men’s Tennis Scores Key Win Over Western New England, 8-1
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene men's tennis team posted a pivotal 8-1 victory over Western New England Thursday afternoon at home.
The Lions improve to 7-9 on the year and 4-3 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the win. The Golden Bears fall to 8-7 overall and 4-3 in league matches with the loss.
Eastern Nazarene swept the three doubles matches to grab a 3-0 edge.
Sam McKay-Corkum (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Tyler Perron (Plympton, Mass.) topped Andres Otero and Alexander Sause 8-4 at the No. 1 doubles spot.
Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Andres Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) defeated PJ Nassar and Peter LeFrancois at the second position, 8-3.
Davis Steelman (Darlington, Md.) and Nick Thompson (York, Pa.) completed the sweep with an 8-3 win over John Mindek and Greg Tischofer at the third slot.
The Lions posted five singles victories en route to halting a two-match skid.
McKay-Corkum best Otero at the No. 1 singles position 6-3, 6-4. Perron picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win at the third singles spot.
Paterno prevailed 6-2, 6-3 over Tyler Unwin in the No. 4 singles match. Thompson edged James Parla at the sixth position 7-5, 10-5.
Steelman outlasted Mindek in three sets at the fifth singles slot. The two traded 6-3 decisions before Steelman earned a 7-6 victory in the deciding frame.
