Men’s Tennis Falls to Division II Stonehill, 8-1
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene men's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision to Division II challenger Stonehill Monday afternoon at home.
The Lions sink to 6-9 on the season while the Skyhawks soar to 12-8 overall.
Stonehill swept the doubles matches to own a 3-0 lead.
Sam McKay-Corkum (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Tyler Perron (Plympton, Mass.) suffered an 8-2 setback at the No. 1 doubles position. Andres Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires, Argentina) absorbed an 8-4 loss at the No. 2 slot to Tom Alaimo and Jon Sanders.
Davis Steelman (Darlington, Md.) and Nick Thompson (York, Pa.) fell to Nick Hyzak and Jared Drzal 8-5 in the third doubles match.
The visitors notched five singles victories to seal the win.
Thompson claimed Eastern Nazarene's lone victory on the day, edging Stonehill's Taylor Whitcomb 8-4 at the No. 6 spot.
Paterno endured a three-set loss at the No. 4 position. Stonehill's Alaimo prevailed in the first and third sets 6-1 and Paterno earned a 6-3 decision in the second set.
Steelman fell in three sets to Brett Armstrong at the No. 5 slot. Steelman edged Armstrong 7-6 in the opening frame before dropping the second set 6-3. Armstrong topped Steelman in a third-set super-tiebreaker 10-6.
McKay-Corkum dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision at the top singles spot to Hyzak. Biondi fell to Eric Ringstad in straight sets at the second singles match, 6-0, 6-4. Perron endured a 6-4, 6-1 setback at the No. 3 position to Philip Klados.
