Men’s Tennis Absorbs 7-2 Loss at Roger Williams
BRISTOL, R.I.- The Eastern Nazarene men's tennis team endured a 7-2 loss on the road at Roger Williams Saturday.
The Lions dip to 6-8 on the year and 3-3 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Hawks elevate to 8-3 overall and 4-1 in league matches.
The home team collected a pair of doubles victories to hang onto a 2-1 edge.
Davis Steelman (Darlington, Md.) and Nick Thompson (York, Pa.) posted Eastern Nazarene's lone doubles win on the day. The duo edged Roger Williams' Kyle Bull and Jonah Schwartz 9-7 at the No. 3 position.
Sam McKay-Corkum (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Tyler Perron (Plympton, Mass.) dropped an 8-3 decision at the top slot. Andres Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires, Argentina) fell at the second doubles spot 8-4.
The Hawks locked up their third win in a row with five singles wins.
Steelman notched the Lions' only victory in singles action, prevailing at the No. 5 slot 6-4, 6-3.
McKay-Corkum was dealt a straight-sets loss at the No. 1 position. The junior was edged 7-6 in the opening set before falling 6-0 in the second.
Biondi suffered a 6-0, 6-3 setback at the second slot while Perron absorbed a 6-1, 6-3 loss at the No. 3 spot. Paterno dropped a 7-6, 6-3 decision in the fourth singles match and Thompson endured a 6-1, 6-2 defeat at the sixth position.
