Men’s Tennis Drops 5-4 Decision at Endicott
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene men's tennis team suffered a 5-4 setback at Endicott Monday afternoon.
The Lions sink to 5-7 on the season and 2-2 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Gulls improve to 5-5 overall and remain unbeaten in league play at 3-0.
Endicott claimed a pair of doubles victories to boast a 2-1 edge.
Tyler Perron (Plympton, Mass.) and Nick Thompson (York, Pa.) posted the visitors' lone doubles win, prevailing 8-3 at the No. 2 spot.
Andres Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Sam McKay-Corkum (Rehoboth, Mass.) absorbed an 8-4 loss at the No. 1 position. Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Sam Son (Wilbraham, Mass.) were downed 9-7 at the third doubles slot by Timothy Forance and Eric Gandrup.
The two squads split the singles matches as the Gulls secured their third consecutive conference victory on the season.
McKay-Corkum topped Forance 6-4, 6-1 at the second singles position.
Davis Steelman (Darlington, Md.) won in straight-sets at the No. 6 spot, besting Justin Warshavsky 6-3, 6-4.
Paterno notched a three-set victory at the No. 4 slot. The sophomore dropped the opening set 6-1 before leveling the match with a 6-1 win in the second frame. Paterno downed Michael Lauretano in the deciding third set 6-3.
Biondi endured a 6-1, 6-2 loss at the No. 1 singles position while Perron fell at the third spot 6-2, 6-2. Son suffered a 6-3, 6-3 setback at the No. 5 singles match.
