Men’s Tennis Dealt 8-1 Loss by Nichols
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene men's tennis team endured an 8-1 setback to Nichols Tuesday afternoon at the ENC Tennis Courts.
The Lions drop to 4-6 on the year and 1-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the result. The Bison improve to 9-1 overall and 2-0 in league matches with the win.
The visitors captured a pair of doubles wins to hold a 2-1 edge.
Eastern Nazarene's lone victory on the day came at the No. 3 doubles position. The hosts' third doubles tandem of Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Sam Son (Wilbraham, Mass.) claimed an 8-1 win over Dan Roman and Josh Halpern.
Andres Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Sam McKay-Corkum (Rehoboth, Mass.) suffered an 8-2 loss at the top spot to Justin DeLuca and Brandon Roode. Tyler Perron (Plympton, Mass.) and Nick Thompson (York, Pa.) fell to Joan Castillo and Carlos De La Cruz 8-3 at the No. 2 doubles slot.
Nichols posted six singles victories to notch its second conference win of the season.
Biondi absorbed a 6-0, 6-1 loss at the No. 1 singles position to DeLuca. McKay-Corkum dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision to Roode at the No. 2 spot. Perron fell to Castilo 6-1, 6-4 in the third singles match.
Paterno endured a 6-4, 6-1 loss to De La Cruz at the No. 4 position. Son suffered a 6-0, 6-1 setback at the No. 5 singles slot to Halpern.
Rookie Davis Steelman (Darlington, Md.) conceded a 6-0, 6-1 decision to Jake Zapatka in the sixth singles match.
