Men’s Tennis Wraps Up Hilton Head Trip with 9-0 Win Over Penn State-Behrend
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.- The Eastern Nazarene men's tennis team swept Penn State-Behrend 9-0 in its final match in the Palmetto State Friday, snapping four-match skid.
The Lions conclude the five-match, week-long trip boasting a 3-4 record on the season. Behrend falls to 2-10 overall with its fifth straight loss.
Eastern Nazarene went undefeated in doubles action to establish a 3-0 lead.
The Lions' top duo of Andres Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Sam McKay-Corkum (Rehoboth, Mass.) doubled up David Buiter and Guillermo Guillen 8-4 at the No. 1 doubles spot.
Tyler Perron (Plympton, Mass.) and Nick Thompson (York, Pa.) prevailed 8-2 in the second doubles match over Nick Kapty and Andrew Trinh.
Yahalel Carter (Chicago, Ill.) and Gregory Parenteau (Wolcott, Conn.) topped Brett Palmer and Terry Kowalskyj 8-4 at the No. 3 slot to complete the doubles sweep.
Eastern Nazarene clinched its first win of the spring with six singles victories.
McKay-Corkum cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at the No.1 singles position and Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires, Argentina) breezed by Trinh 6-0, 6-0 at the third spot.
Thompson secured his fourth singles victory of the year with a 6-2, 6-2 decision in the fourth singles match.
Parenteau and Shane Bookhultz (New Freedom, Pa.) each picked up their first singles wins of the season, scoring straight-set triumphs at the fifth and sixth positions, respectively.
Perron outlasted Guillen in a three-set thriller at the No. 2 singles slot. The junior captured the first set 6-1 before dropping the second frame 6-3. Perron coasted to a 6-0 win in the third set to seal the victory.
