Men’s Tennis Outdueled by Bridgewater (Va.), 8-1
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.- The Eastern Nazarene men's tennis team suffered its fourth consecutive setback Thursday, falling to Bridgewater (Va.) 8-1 at Chaplin Park in Hilton Head Island, S.C.
The Lions flutter to 2-4 on the season while the Eagles soar to 3-6 overall with the decision.
Bridgewater posted three wins in doubles play and headed into singles action leading 3-0.
Sam McKay-Corkum (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Andres Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) absorbed an 8-2 loss at the No. 1 position.
Eastern Nazarene's No. 2 doubles tandem of Tyler Perron (Plympton, Mass.) and Nick Thompson (York, Pa.) dropped an 8-4 decision to Christian Lynn and Drew Hubble.
Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Davis Steelman (Darlington, Md.) were dealt an 8-2 loss in the third doubles spot.
After capturing five singles victories, the Eagles prevailed for the second time on the day after topping Ohio Wesleyan.
Thompson scored the Lions' lone win in the match, triumphing in three-sets over Aaron Snook at the No. 6 slot. The senior claimed the first set 6-4 before Snook secured a 6-0 result in the second. Thompson downed Snook in a third-set super-tiebreaker 10-3.
McKay-Corkum came up short in three sets at the second singles position. McKay-Corkum edged Kyle Hartfield 8-6 in a tiebreaker to force a third-set super-tiebreaker after dropping the opening set 6-1. The junior fell in the super-tiebreaker 10-6.
Biondi, Perron, Paterno and Steelman all suffered setbacks in straight sets.
