Men’s Tennis Battles Strong at Stonehill Doubles Invitational
EASTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene men’s tennis team competed in the Stonehill Doubles Invitational Saturday at the Charles Watt Tennis Courts.
EASTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene men's tennis team competed in the Stonehill Doubles Invitational Saturday at the Charles Watt Tennis Courts.
The Lions entered four pairs into the tournament.
Sam McKay-Corkum (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Nick Thompson (York, Pa.) represented Eastern Nazarene in the Flight A bracket. The duo dropped their first match 8-2 to Stonehill's Eric Ringstad and Brett Armstrong. McKay-Corkum and Thompson suffered an 8-3 setback in the Flight A consolation bracket to Ryan Sullivan and Jimmy Ye of Holy Cross.
In Flight B, Davis Steelman (Darlington, Md.) and Tyler Perron (Plympton, Mass.) fell in the first round to Jared Drzal and Will Brosnan from Stonehill 8-1. The tandem was eliminated from the tournament with an 8-5 loss to Southern New Hampshire's Juan Arango-Campo and Evan Eaton.
The Lions boasted two doubles pairs in Flight C as Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires, Argentina) partnered with Andres Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Gregory Parenteau (Wolcott, Conn.) joined forces with Yahalel Carter (Chicago, Ill.).
Carter and Parenteau were edged 8-6 in their opening match by Assumption's Zack Slepchuck and Casey Hodor. The duo was ousted in the Flight C consolation bracket with an 8-2 loss to Cody Rodrigues and Josh Robinson from Springfield.
Biondi and Paterno defeated Brandon Ynanan and Rob Buetti of Holy Cross 8-6 in the first round to reach the finals of Flight C. The pair absorbed an 8-5 loss in the championship match to Jon Sanders and Taylor Whitcomb from Stonehill.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene will host UMass-Dartmouth October 3.
