Men’s Tennis Earns Five All-CCC Nods; Austin Steelman Named CCC Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year
SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene men’s tennis team garnered five All-Commonwealth Coast Conference selections and Austin Steelman was tabbed the Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as announced by the league office Friday afternoon.
SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene men's tennis team garnered five All-Commonwealth Coast Conference selections and Austin Steelman (Darlington, Md.) was tabbed the Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as announced by the league office Friday afternoon.
Steelman also earned a spot on the All-Commonwealth Coast Conference first team singles while Sam McKay-Corkum (Rehoboth, Mass.) claimed second team singles honors. Tim Luz (Cumberland, R.I.) earned All-CCC honorable mention in singles.
The Lions' top doubles pair of Nick Thompson (York, Pa.) and Steelman notched all-conference second team accolades. Luz and McKay-Corkum also picked up honorable mention in doubles.
On the court, Steelman posted an 11-5 record on the season and a 6-2 mark in league matches this season at the No. 1 position. Off the court, Steelman boasts a 4.0 grade-point average as he is double-majoring in Physics and History. He was recently accepted into the highly-prestigious Harvard Law School.
McKay-Corkum registered an 11-5 singles record this spring to go with a 7-1 record against conference opponents, playing primarily at the No. 2 slot.
Luz racked up a 6-9 record on the year in singles action and went 4-3 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference.
The tandem of Steelman and Thompson sported an 8-8 record in the regular season and tallied a 4-4 record in league play. Luz and McKay-Corkum posted a record of 12-3 on the year with a 7-1 mark in the conference, playing at the No. 2 doubles spot.
Eastern Nazarene turned in a 10-7 record on the year and heads into the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament as the No. 3 seed after finishing the campaign with a 6-2 conference mark.
The Lions will host sixth-seeded Wentworth April 27 in the opening round of the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament at 1 pm.
