Men's Tennis Gains 7-2 Victory at Gordon

WENHAM, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene men's tennis team prevailed 7-2 on the road at Gordon Thursday afternoon in league action. With the win, the Lions rise to 9-7 overall and 5-2 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Fighting Scots fall to 4-11 on the year and 1-4 against league opponents.
The visitors captured a pair of doubles victories to cling to a 2-1 lead midway through the match.
Sam McKay-Corkum (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Tim Luz (Cumberland, R.I.) picked up an 8-2 win at the No. 2 position. Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Tyler Perron (Plympton, Mass.) cruised to an 8-1 victory at the third slot.
Eastern Nazarene's top duo of Austin Steelman (Darlington, Md.) and Nick Thompson (York, Pa.) suffered an 8-4 setback to Gordon's Zach Hall and Kenny Gaudio.
Steelman edged Hall 6-4, 7-5 at the No. 1 singles spot. McKay-Corkum recorded a pair of 6-1 set wins at the second position. Luz topped the Brandon Inkles 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 3 slot.
Perron breezed past Joe Daugherty 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 5 position while Thompson downed Mike Olszak 6-4, 6-4 at the sixth spot.
Paterno dropped a three-set decision at the No. 4 slot to Richie Armand. Paterno won the opening set 6-2 before falling 6-2, 7-5.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene will close out the regular season slate at Western New England April 24 before preparing for the Commonwealth Coast Conference playoffs.
