QUINCY, Mass. – The Eastern Nazarene men's tennis team absorbed a 7-2 loss to Roger Williams Tuesday afternoon at the ENC Tennis Courts. The Lions slip to 8-7 on the year and 4-2 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the setback. The Hawks escalate to 9-5 overall and remain unbeaten in league play at 6-0.
The visitors captured a 2-1 advantage at the conclusion of doubles action.
Tim Luz (Cumberland, R.I.) and Sam McKay-Corkum (Rehoboth, Mass.) posted an 8-3 victory at the No. 2 doubles position.
Austin Steelman (Darlington, Md.) and Nick Thompson (York, Pa.) were edged 9-8 at the top slot after falling in 7-5 in a tiebreaker to Roger Williams' Kevin Erikson and Jason Pacino, who moved into sole possession of the program record for career doubles wins.
Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Tyler Perron (Plympton, Mass.) dropped an 8-2 decision at the third spot.
The Hawks claimed five victories in the singles portion of the match to lock up their sixth-straight win.
McKay-Corkum notched Eastern Nazarene's lone singles victory on the day, prevailing at the No. 2 slot 6-4, 6-4.
Steelman fell 6-4, 6-1 at the top position to Zack Bussiere while Luz suffered a 7-5, 6-1 setback at the No. 3 spot. Paterno, Perron and Thompson all endured straight-set losses at the fourth, fifth and sixth singles slots, respectively.
