Men’s Tennis Cruises Past Salve Regina, 9-0
QUINCY, Mass. – The Eastern Nazarene men’s tennis team rolled to a 9-0 victory over Salve Regina Saturday afternoon at the ENC Tennis Courts.
QUINCY, Mass. – The Eastern Nazarene men's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 victory over Salve Regina Saturday afternoon at the ENC Tennis Courts. The Lions jump to 8-6 overall and 4-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the win. The Seahawks flutter to 1-10 on the year and 1-4 in league matches.
The home team captured three victories in doubles play before notching six singles wins.
Eastern Nazarene's top tandem of Austin Steelman (Darlington, Md.) and Nick Thompson (York, Pa.) picked up an 8-3 victory over Salve Regina's Aaron Isch and Colin Gunning. Sam McKay-Corkum (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Tim Luz (Cumberland, R.I.) breezed to an 8-0 win at the No. 2 position. Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Tyler Perron (Plympton, Mass.) prevailed 8-2 at the third spot.
At the No. 1 singles slot, Steelman downed Isch 6-1, 6-2. McKay-Corkum tallied a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Salve Regina's Kenneth McCormack at the second position. Paterno registered a 6-2, 6-0 win in his first match at the No. 3 spot.
Perron posted a 6-1, 6-1 decision at the fourth position while Gregory Parenteau (Wolcott, Conn.) edged the Seahawks' Mike Gallerani 7-5, 6-3 at the No. 6 slot.
Thompson recorded a three-set victory at the fifth singles spot over Khoa Nguyen. After dropping the opening set, Thompson rallied to level the match with a 7-5 win in the second frame. The junior outlasted Nguyen in a third-set super-tiebreaker, prevailing 16-14.
Up next, the Lions will host Roger Williams April 16 in the final home match of the regular season.
