Men’s Tennis Bests Endicott in Home-Opener, 7-2

QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene men's tennis team topped Endicott in its first home match of the spring Wednesday afternoon. The Lions elevated to 5-4 overall and 2-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Gulls move to 3-4 on the season and 0-1 in league action.
The hosts seized a 3-0 advantage with a trio of wins in doubles play.
Austin Steelman (Darlington, Md.) and Nick Thompson (York, Pa.) powered past Endicott's Olivier Joggi and Jake Cohen 8-4 at the top slot. Sam McKay-Corkum (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Tim Luz (Cumberland, R.I.) prevailed 8-3 at the No. 2 position. Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Tyler Perron (Plympton, Mass.) picked up an 8-4 victory at the third spot.
Eastern Nazarene posted four singles wins to secure its second-straight victory.
Steelman cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win at the No. 1 singles position against Joggi. McKay-Corkum tallied a 7-6, 6-1 victory at the second spot while Sam Son (Wilbraham, Mass.) earned a three-set win at the third slot. Son claimed the opening set 6-4 and dropped the second 6-3 before bouncing back to post a 6-2 victory in the third set. Perron edged the Gulls' Michael Dolph 6-4, 7-5 at the No. 6 position.
Luz suffered a pair of 7-6 setback at the No. 4 slot while Paterno fell 6-2, 6-4 at the fifth singles match.
Eastern Nazarene will look remain unbeaten in the Commonwealth Coast Conference as it visits Wentworth April 2.
