Men’s Tennis Drops 8-1 Decision at UMass-Dartmouth

The host Corsairs swept the doubles matches to hold a 3-0 lead at the start of singles play.
Austin Steelman (Darlington, Md.) and Sam Son (Wilbraham, Mass.) suffered an 8-2 loss at the top spot to UMass-Dartmouth's Karsten Rathlev and Patrick Lewis. At the No. 2 position, Sam McKay-Corkum (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Tyler Perron (Plympton, Mass.) were edged 9-7 by Matt Bejtlich and Brennan Dugas. Tim Luz (Cumberland, R.I.) and Nick Thompson (York, Pa.) fell 8-2 at the third slot to Mike Parker and Zach Engstrom.
McKay-Corkum picked up the lone point in the match for the visitors at the No. 2 singles position. The junior dropped the first set 6-4 before his opponent was forced to retire.
Steelman fell 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 1 slot to Rathlev while Luz dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision at the No. 3 spot to Bejtlich and Perron endured a 6-3, 6-2 loss at the fourth position. Kevin Paterno (Quincy, Mass.) and Thompson each suffered three-set losses at the fifth and sixth slots, respectively.
