Men's Soccer's Charlie Swann, Leon Zaffonato Earn United Soccer Coaches All-New England Honors
KANSAS CITY, Mo.- Juniors Charlie Swann (London, England) and Leon Zaffonato (Canela, Brazil) of the Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team have been named to the United Soccer Coaches All-New England Region third team, announced the organization Monday.
Swann and Zaffonato become the first student-athletes in program history to receive All-Region honors.
The duo played key roles in the Lions' historic 2019 campaign which yielded the program's first New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) championship and first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. Eastern Nazarene compiled a program-best 16-4-0 overall record and rattled off a program-record 13-straight victories.
Swann was tabbed the NECC Player of the Year and claimed All-NECC first team honors this fall. The junior striker bagged a league-best 18 goals to rank 12th in NCAA Division III. Swann also dished out three assists on the year to finish with 39 points.
Zaffonato collected All-NECC first team accolades after pacing the conference with nine assists and ranking third in the league with 11 tallies. He was named the NECC Tournament Most Valuable Player this fall as he netted three goals and dished out a pair of helpers in the Lions' three postseason victories.
