Leon Zaffonato Tabbed NECC Men’s Soccer Player of the Week
MANSFIELD, Mass.- Junior Leon Zaffonato (Canela, Brazil) of the Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team has been named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Week, announced the league office Monday.
Zaffonato netted two goals and dished out one assist to power the Lions to a pair of victories on the week to extend the squad's unbeaten-run to 10-consecutive matches.
In Eastern Nazarene's 2-0 win over Emerson, Zaffonato bagged his fourth goal of the season as he found the back of the net in the 89th minute to seal the victory.
In the Lions' 4-0 win over Mitchell to cap off the week, the junior notched the first two tallies of the contest before picking up an assist in the second half.
Zaffonato ranks third in the league with six goals and leads the conference with five assists this season. He ranks second in the NECC with 17 points on the year while teammate Charlie Swann (London, England) paces the league with 24 points.
Eastern Nazarene boasts a 10-1-0 overall record to go with a 3-0-0 mark in conference action this fall.
Looking ahead, the Lions will host Pine Manor October 9 at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
